Job at Major Financial Services Firm: Chief Economics (Researcher)

A major financial services firm based in West Africa is seeking a senior macro economist/researcher to join their high performance team in Lagos. The successful candidate will lead the team that will be responsible for providing timely, empirically based economic analysis that will enable the firm to leverage local and global opportunities, and deal with unforeseen events The candidate must have a Ph.D. in economics/finance or econometrics from a recognized university. He/she must have 5-15 years experience in financial markets, and an in-depth understanding of financial markets in relation to the global economy. He/she must also have experience in quantitative research and a proven record of adding value at an established research or investment firm. Other requirements include: • Strong analytical skills • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English • Proven ability to communicate economic ideas and technical subject matter to a non-specialist audience, including government officials, the private sector and civil society • Deep understanding of the broader macroeconomic and political environment within which policy is developed as well as understanding of the way financial markets operate in practice • Good understanding of the fixed income, foreign exchange and equity markets • Ability to contextualize market evolution and movements into original commentary and analysis • Extensive knowledge of emerging market economies • Extensive knowledge in quantitative economics and its application, especially in emerging economies Scope of the position / Duties and responsibilities • Conduct Macro research • Produce original and authoritative analysis on Nigeria and other selected economies • Provide a high standard of original commentary and analysis on global/Nigerian economic releases and related markets subjects • Maintain standards to ensure overall quality of commentary and analysis. • Produce investment ideas and recommendations for the traders and portfolio manger The successful candidate will receive an attractive package, including an internationally competitive salary and perks.
